Storage information

Cookie policy

This page explains which cookies and browser storage FaunaGuide uses, why they are needed and how you can manage them. We currently do not load analytics or advertising cookies on the public site.

Cookies and browser storage

A cookie is a small piece of data stored by a server or page in your browser. Local and session storage serve related purposes but are not automatically sent with each request. These technologies may provide technical functions or remember preferences; whether consent is needed depends on their purpose.

Essential FaunaGuide cookies

faunaguide-session maintains the session needed to browse and use site features. XSRF-TOKEN helps protect forms from unauthorised submissions. Both are first-party technical cookies, not used for advertising or cross-site tracking. Both currently last two hours and may be renewed during a visit.

Preferences stored on your device

Choosing light or dark mode stores faunaguide-theme locally. Saving a profile or story stores its identifier in faunaguide-saved. Some interactive experiences may save progress locally, and some tabs remember their selection during the session. This stays on your device until you or the browser delete it; it does not create an account or sync across devices.

External services and links

Fonts are currently requested from Google Fonts when a page loads. This request may send technical data such as your IP address to that provider, although FaunaGuide does not use it as analytics. Following links to external sources, licences or media takes you to services with their own policies. External media integrations are reviewed separately.

Analytics, advertising and consent

The public site has no integrated analytics, behavioural advertising or marketing cookies. We therefore do not show an accept/reject panel for categories that are not installed. Before adding non-essential technology, we would explain its purposes, providers and duration and request consent, with equally accessible ways to reject and withdraw it.

Managing or deleting data

You can remove site cookies and storage in your browser privacy settings. This may reset your theme, saved reading list or experience progress, while session and form functions may require a page reload. Blocking all essential cookies can prevent those functions from working.

Keeping this policy current

We review this page when site technologies or their purposes change. The published policy should reflect how FaunaGuide actually works. We explain these essential cookies for transparency even though their necessary purpose is exempt from consent.
